India participation in the Meetings of Carnegie Group of Ministers


Carnegie Group established in 1991-is a Forum of S&T Ministers and Chief Science Advisors of the G8 Nations+EC (European Commission) +O5 (5 Emerging economies- Brazil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa- included in 2007). The Group maintain unique nature-meetings over the weekends, away from the Capital Cities, informal but intense discussions, without support staff or record of the discussions


Carnegie meetings provide a platform for high level policy debates, interventions, and country perspectives on the S&T issues of global significance and is credited with initiating significant discussions and initiatives on issues such as Ethics in Human Genome Research and GMOs, Collaborations in Megascience,Climate Change and sustainable development,Brain circulation, Research for addressing Demographic Change, Natural Disaster anticipation, mitigation and resilience, Green Economy, Neurodegenerative diseases, Antimicrobial resistance, Africa S&T Initiative etc.


India has been participating in the meetings at Ministers / Secretary DST's level and providing its perspectives on the themes of the meetings. India hosted the 43rd Carnegie in 2015 and used the opportunity and platform to share its competencies in STI, publicize achievements and leverage international alliances to realize its S&T vision.
